Hamilton Huskies Counseling Team
Welcome back Hamilton Huskies! Our Counseling Department (Mr. Obermeyer and Ms. Ortiz) have been busy trying to meet all of our new students and checking in with our returning ones! We are excited to start a new year at Hamilton, and look forward to the opportunity to work with our students once again!
Our counselors are responsible for implementing our Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP) lessons throughout the school year to each grade. These lessons will focus on exploring students’ options after high school graduation, and each student participates in the lessons and completes an ICAP Survey, which is now a high school graduation requirement for students.
We encourage parents to continue the discussions with their students after their ICAP lessons to further their interest in developing their plans after completing high school.
6th Grade Scholars begin ICAP in September, when we help the students set up their ICAP accounts in Schoology, explain the role of a school counselor at Hamilton, and share middle school success tips. 7th and 8th Grade ICAP begins in October.
We have also scheduled our High School Options Night for Thursday, Oct. 10 from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm. This is an excellent opportunity for our 8th graders and their families to attend and learn about the different high school programs available from various high school representatives. Also learn about setting up shadow opportunities and open houses at these high schools to get a more in-depth look.
