Author Visits Hamilton
November 4, 2018 Hamilton Huskies

Hamilton Huskies were treated to an assembly with special guest Kwame Alexander. Mr. Alexander is a poet, educator, and the New York Times Bestselling author of 28 books, includingSwing, Solo, and Rebound, the follow-up to his Newberry medal-winning middle grade novel, The Crossover. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including The Coretta Scott King Author Honor, The Lee Bennett Hopkins Poetry Prize, Three NAACP Image Award Nominations, and the 2017 Inaugural Pat Conroy Legacy Award. He believes that poetry can change the world, and he uses it to inspire and empower young people around the world!

Kwame Alexander talked with our scholars about believing in themselves. He rapped with them about how failures don’t mean that you can’t succeed. He inspired us with the story of how his first book was rejected by 18 publishers, but went on to be an award winning best seller! All of our Huskies also left with a hardcover copy of one of Kwame Alexander’s books!

Special thanks to the Carmel Hill Fund for helping to make this visit possible and toBookies bookstore for supplying the books. Learn more about Kwame Alexander and his books HERE.
