————————————————————————————————————————–

At Hamilton, we understand how important physical activity is for healthy bodies, hearts, and minds. We encourage all students to be involved in athletics in some way.

Whether it is through physical education classes, intramural sports teams, or athletic clubs, there are ways for our youths to be involved. Athletics are a great way to meet other Huskies, feel a part of the team, and strive for excellence together.

Physical Education Classes

Physical education classes are offered as electives at Hamilton Middle School. Available to 6th, 7th, and 8th grades, these classes offer a blend of formal education in various team sports with an added focus on conditioning and fittness.

Intramural Sports Teams

For many of our students, participation in intramural sports is an important part of Husky life. Sports allow student athletes the chance to learn new skills, practice the ones they have, find mentorship in their coaches, and feel connected to other Hamilton student athletes on their team.

Athletic Seasons

Denver Public Schools divides the school year into four sports seasons:

  • Early Fall –Late August to mid-October
  • Late Fall –Mid-October to mid-November
  •  Winter –Early December to mid-February

Futures

Futures at Hamilton is a collaboration between Hamilton Middle School and Denver high schools, in which the high school coaches help our middle school student athletes to transition to high school sports programs.

Futures Football – Look for tryouts in mid-February, with games starting in early March.

Futures Summer Programs – include opportunities in the following sports:

  • Volleyball
  • Soccer
  • Baseball
  • Softball
  • Basketball

Required Forms:

Before participating in intramural sports, student athletes must be sure that the necessary forms are

1)    Completed

2)    Signed by a guardian or parent

3)    Turned in to the main office.

Necessary forms are available in the main office and include:

  • Medical physical examination for athletics
  • Parent permission and emergency form
  • Code of Conduct
  • Financial Responsibility form

In addition, a participation fee of $25 per student athlete, per sport is due to the treasure before an athlete may participate.

Tryouts:

At the beginning of the school year, students who wish to participate in athletics must have their paperwork filled out. Be prepared for tryouts sometime in the first or second week of school. Only students with a completed physical examination form will be allowed to try out. First matches, meets, and games are held about two weeks after school starts.

Academic Eligibility

Weekly academic progress reports are issued every Wednesday. In order to participate in sports, student athletes must have received no more than two assignments with a letter grade of F in one week. In addition, student athletes must maintain a grade point average of 2.0. This prepares our middle school student athletes for the academic requirements they will encounter in high schools.
