Hello Husky Families!
I hope this letter finds you doing well! As we move into the Fall semester, I want to write you a brief update on our progress. After a strong start to school, our faculty has focused on high quality lessons for our scholars. Specifically, we are focusing as a faculty on deepening our relationships with all students and increasing the rigor, or complexity, of what we ask students to think about in class. We are also emphasizing independent reading through Hamily Reads, and we need your support emphasizing the importance of reading every evening with your scholars.
We also are building our community through a special focus on teaching our students lessons on social-emotional learning, empathy, diversity, and inclusiveness. In our upcoming lesson, students will be focusing on the theme of “unity through community.” Our “Husky PACK lessons” are designed by a team of Hamilton teachers, counselors, social workers, and other mental health professionals. This is part of our concerted effort to strengthen our school culture and prevent bullying.
I am also excited to see other intentional efforts to strengthen our school community launch this month. I learned a lot from families, students, and staff at our first African American Parent Advisory Council meeting of the year. In this time, families, staff, and students shared insightful information on what Hamilton is doing well and what we need to improve.
While we are making important strides in improving our equity, Hamilton must do more. Likewise, we have our first English Learning Parent Advisory Council launch this week.
Students have also formed:
- Black Student Alliance
- Gay Straight Alliance
- Saxophone Society
- Thespian Honor Society
- Girls on the Run
- Young Men of Purpose
- A special leadership class
and so much more!
Together, we can build an awesome school culture, and we’re working hard at it each day! Our diversity is our treasure.
Finally, please have a discussion with your scholars about their progress. Now is an important time to log into Parent Portal and Schoology and review grades and attendance. Reach out to your scholar’s Dean of Culture and teachers and check in on your scholar’s behavior. We are thankful for our families’ partnership with us, as it takes a team to support our amazing middle school students through their growth!
