New Principal For Hamilton Middle School

Hello Hamilton Community, 

We are about to launch the process of finding a new Principal for Hamilton Middle School. Please allow us to share with you what the hiring process looks like and how you will be asked to participate. 

The process takes multiple weeks and is designed for staff and community members to have multiple opportunities to give input around selecting the next Principal. It is important to note that the decision of hiring a Principal is only made by the Superintendent, Dr. Alex Marrero, who will make his decision largely based on the input we gather from you all during this process. The first opportunity to give input will be to participate in the survey we will send out the week of October 24, 2021. This survey will ask a series of questions related to the attributes you believe the next leader must-have. We will use survey responses to screen the applications. 

The second opportunity to give input will be to participate on the interview committee. 5 community members and 5 staff members will be chosen, in consultation with the school’s Collaborative School Committee (CSC), to interview Principal candidates. An application will go out the week of October 31st for all parties interested to apply. The CSC will then review the applications the week of November 7th and select the ten interview panelists. Once selected, interview panelists will meet to write the interview questions. Principal candidates will then interview with the panel the week of November 14th. 

Based on the results of the interviews, 2-3 finalists will be selected. These finalists will then participate in a community town hall the week of November 28th where all parents and staff will be invited to ask questions of the candidates and give input on who they think is the best fit. Due to COVID health guardrails, this will be a virtual town hall. The Superintendent will then review the input from the town hall and conduct a final interview with the finalists. Dr. Marrero will then select the next Principal, which will be announced before winter break. The newly selected Principal will then begin in January, the start of the second semester. 

Please consider participating in one or more of these input-giving opportunities. Your input matters as it shapes the Superintendent’s final decision.
