DU Ritchie Intern Zion Gezaw: Making Hamilton an Antiracist School

Posted November 9, 2020

We are excited to announce that Hamilton Middle School’s Zion Gezaw will be serving as a Ritchie Intern at the University of Denver Principal Development Program!

Gezaw is in her fourth year of teaching  6th Grade Literacy at Hamilton, and in her first year as the Team Lead for Culturally Responsive Education. Currently, she is in school to earn her Ed.D in Curriculum and Instruction, along with a Principal’s License. As part of her doctoral program and the Ritchie Internship, she will work with Hamilton’s Principal, Dr. Sawyer, to understand what a day in the life of a principal truly means.

“The amazing thing about this work is that through my other roles at Hamilton – STL of CRE & Academic Equity, along with being a member of SLT and ILT – I am able to combine my efforts and use my platform at Hamilton to learn more,” Gezaw explains. “As well as understand what it truly takes to create an antiracist school culture at Hamilton.”

Gezaw is excited to learn from her fellow teachers about what they believe a good school and principal looks like.

“I am eager to begin my work with Dr. Sawyer and learn how to make Hamilton an antiracist school and learn how we can better serve our students together.”
