Dear Hamilton Community,
I hope that my letter finds you enjoying a much needed summer vacation. I am writing to share some news. It has been a great honor to serve as Hamilton’s principal for the past six years. After much thought, I have made the decision to step away from my principal role at Hamilton. I have not reached this decision lightly, given how much Hamilton means to me. I have accepted a meaningful role with the DPS Deputy Superintendent of Schools to work with principals and shape our strategic direction. My new role will allow me to continue to serve our district and help us grow in a positive way, while also attending to my health, which requires more of my attention in the coming months. It is important to me that our Hamilton students, teachers and community have consistently present leadership, especially as the community emerges from the pandemic.
As I reflect on my years as principal of our school community, I remember the first time I sat in our lunchroom with students, hearing of their hopes and dreams for their future. To me, that’s what our work is all about as educators: the incredible promise inside each student. Reflecting on my years at Hamilton, I celebrate our team’s accomplishments that are quite memorable to me, while knowing that important work is ahead. Together, we boldly unified into one school program, earning official authorization as an International Baccalaureate Program, believing in all of our students to achieve rigorous learning! We built a teacher leadership model that honors the vital importance of our teachers in shaping our instructional direction and curricula. We worked as a team to center equity, such as constructing highly effective multilingual learner and Newcomer programs, welcoming students from around the world– even reaching “Distinguished” growth levels! We significantly expanded our whole child and mental health supports and integrated daily advisory programming to nurture our students’ well being. We pioneered changing our school’s start time, recognizing our students’ health. Together, we have ushered in lasting change through our intentional focus on equity and inclusion, celebrating diversity, instituting a Black Excellence Plan, and focusing on building a school where our neighborhood middle schoolers feel they belong.
Middle school is a rapid time of self-discovery, growth and change, and it has been a gift to be a part of our Hamilton students’ educational journey. Such as seeing our students perform The Lion King; courageously march for civil rights; share their art and music; launch clubs recognizing the individuality of each student; collaborate on sports teams and in the Special Olympics; design new robotics; collaborate to solve a math challenge; prevent bullying; and grow in their academics and as young people. Likewise, my time getting to work with the devoted teachers and team members at Hamilton has forever shaped my outlook on education. Our teachers’ tireless efforts to design engaging and differentiated lesson plans for our students; our whole child team’s passionate care for our students; our facilities, cafeteria, and front office teams and their endless service to our school– even supporting a full campus renovation! Of course, my fellow administrators’ countless hours to lead our community forward. And to our community, I have such gratitude for your support and belief in our work as educators. I leave my tenure at Hamilton inspired!
As Hamilton prepares for a strong return to school, I have full confidence that Hamilton will continue to move forward in our quest to unite the beautifully diverse children of Southeast Denver into a true neighborhood school, where each young person feels valued, nurtured, challenged academically, and supported individually.
Our Instructional Superintendent, Dr. Timothy Dale, will be communicating with you in the next few days about plans for identifying an interim leader to leadHamilton for the fall semester. Naming an interim will allow us to conduct an in depth search and engage in a robust community led process in the winter to identify the next permanent principal. I fully trust our Hamilton Huskies will be in good hands moving forward.
Hamilton will always be in my heart. We are stronger together! GO HUSKIES!

Espero que cuando reciban mi carta estén disfrutando de unas merecidas vacaciones de verano. Hoy quiero compartir una noticia personal. He tenido el inmenso honor de ser el director de Hamilton durante estos últimos seis años. Tras mucha consideración, he tomado la decisión de dejar mi cargo como director en Hamilton. Esta ha sido una decisión difícil por lo importante que Hamilton es para mí. He aceptado desempeñar un cargo significativo con el superintendente adjunto de Escuelas de DPS para trabajar con los directores y dar forma a nuestra dirección estratégica. Mis nuevas funciones me permitirán continuar sirviendo a nuestro Distrito y ayudarnos a crecer de un modo positivo, a la vez que podré ocuparme también de mi salud, a la que debo prestar mi atención en los próximos meses. Para mí es importante que nuestros estudiantes, los maestros y la comunidad de Hamilton tengan un liderazgo presente de forma constante, especialmente a medida que la comunidad va saliendo de la pandemia.
Al reflexionar sobre mis años como director de nuestra comunidad escolar, recuerdo la primera vez que me senté en nuestra cafetería con los estudiantes y escuché sus esperanzas y sueños para el futuro. Para mí, ese es el fundamento de nuestra labor como educadores: la increíble promesa que cada estudiante lleva en su interior. Al pensar en mis años en Hamilton, celebro los logros de nuestro equipo, los cuales valoraré siempre, aunque sé que tenemos por delante un trabajo importante. Juntos nos unimos valientemente en un programa escolar, y obtuvimos la autorización oficial como Programa de Bachillerato Internacional con la convicción de que todos nuestros estudiantes lograrían un aprendizaje exigente. Desarrollamos un modelo de liderazgo docente que honra la crucial importancia de nuestros maestros para conformar la dirección de nuestra instrucción y planes de estudio. Trabajamos como equipo para centrar la equidad, como desarrollar programas para estudiantes multilingües y recién llegados, dar la bienvenida a estudiantes de todo el mundo e incluso lograr el nivel de “Distinguido”. Ampliamos considerablemente nuestros apoyos al niño como ser integral y a la salud mental e integramos programas de orientación diaria para fomentar el bienestar de nuestros estudiantes. Fuimos pioneros en cambiar la hora de entrada de nuestra escuela, al considerar la salud de nuestros estudiantes. Juntos hemos abordado un cambio duradero a través de nuestro enfoque intencional en la equidad y la inclusión, celebrar la diversidad, instituir un Plan de Excelencia Negra y enfocarnos en desarrollar una escuela donde nuestros estudiantes de secundaria del vecindario tengan sentido de pertenencia.
La escuela secundaria es una época rápida para conocernos a nosotros mismos, crecer y cambiar, y ha sido un regalo ser parte del trayecto educativo de los estudiantes de Hamilton. Disfruté de ver a nuestros estudiantes actuar en El Rey León, marchar valientemente por los derechos civiles, compartir su arte y su música, crear clubes que reconocen la individualidad de cada estudiante, colaborar en los equipos deportivos y en las Olimpíadas Especiales, diseñar nueva robótica, colaborar para resolver un reto matemático, impedir el acoso escolar y crecer en sus materias académicas y como personas jóvenes. Igualmente, el tiempo en que trabajé con los dedicados maestros y miembros del equipo de Hamilton formó de modo permanente mi perspectiva sobre la educación. Los esfuerzos incansables de nuestros maestros por diseñar planes de lecciones interesantes y diferenciadas para nuestros estudiantes, el fervoroso cuidado hacia nuestros estudiantes por parte de nuestro equipo del niño como ser integral, nuestros equipos de instalaciones, cafetería y oficina principal y su interminable servicio a nuestra escuela, ¡aun apoyando la renovación completa de nuestro campus! Y, por supuesto, las incontables horas dedicadas por mis compañeros administradores para llevar nuestra comunidad hacia adelante. Estoy muy agradecido a nuestra comunidad por su apoyo y fe en nuestro trabajo como educadores. ¡Dejo mi trabajo en Hamilton inspirado!
A medida que Hamilton se prepara para un sólido regreso a clases, tengo plena confianza en que Hamilton seguirá hacia adelante en nuestra búsqueda de unir a la hermosa diversidad de niños del sureste de Denver en una verdadera escuela de vecindario, donde cada joven se sienta valorado, inspirado, desafiado a nivel académico y apoyado individualmente.

بينما أفكر في السنوات التي أمضيتها كمدير لمدرستنا العزيزة، أتذكر المرة الأولى التي جلست فيها في غرفة الغداء مع الطلاب، وسمعت عن آمالهم وأحلامهم حول مستقبلهم. بالنسبة لي، هذا هو أجمل ما في عملنا كمعلمين: الطموح المذهل داخل كل طالب. وبالتفكير في السنوات التي أمضيتها في هاميلتون، أحتفل في مخيلتي بإنجازات فريقنا التي قد حفرت في ذاكرتي، و أعلم في ذات الوقت أن العمل المهم لا زال ينتظرنا، لقد توحدنا بإقدام في برنامج مدرسي واحد، وحصلنا على اعتماد رسمي كبرنامج تعليمي دولي، حيث كنا مؤمنين بأن جميع طلابنا يستطيعون الانخراط والنجاح في تعليم بمعايير جادة! لقد بنينا نموذجًا للمعلم القائد لزرع أهمية المعلم في أذهاننا وتشكيل توجهاتنا التعليمية ومناهجنا. لقد عملنا كفريق لتحقيق الإنصاف من حولنا، مثل إنشاء برامج فعالة للغاية للمتعلمين متعددي اللغات والوافدين الجدد، والترحيب بالطلاب من جميع أنحاء العالم وحتى الوصول إلى مستويات متميزة من النمو!، لقد قمنا بمنح دعمنا الكامل لصحة الطفل الجسدية والعقلية بشكل كبير ودمجنا البرامج الاستشارية اليومية لتعزيز رفاهية طلابنا. لقد كنا روادًا في تغيير وقت بدء المدرسة والاهتمام بصحة طلابنا. لقد دخلنا معًا في معركة التغيير الدائمة من خلال تركيزنا المتعمد على الإنصاف والاندماج والاحتفال بالتنوع ووضع خطة “التميز للطلاب ذوي البشرة السمراء”، والتركيز على بناء مدرسة يشعر فيها طلاب المدارس المتوسطة في منطقتنا بالانتماء.

سيتواصل معكم المشرف التعليمي، الدكتور تيموثي ديل، في الأيام القليلة القادمة حول الخطط المبدئية لتحديد مدير مؤقت لاستلام مكاني في هاميلتون في فصل الخريف. وبتعيين شخص جديد للفترة القادمة سنكون قادرين على إجراء بحث متعمق والمشاركة في عملية قوية يقودها الجميع في هاميلتون في فصل الشتاء لتحديد المدير القادم الدائم.
