Each semester Mrs. Jones teaches 270 Hamilton scholars Visual and 3D Arts.
When it was announced that the first quarter of the 2020-21 school year would take place online Jones knew she had to find a way to provide her students with art supplies in order to effectively engage and inspire them to participate in online art education.
Another Hamilton teacher had told her about DonorsChoose, a nonprofit organization that allows individuals to donate directly to public school classroom projects.
Jones set a goal of $1,600 in order to provide all of her scholars with pencils, an eraser, a pencil sharpener, a 12-pack of colored pencils, 10 markers, and a mini journal/sketchbook. In just over 24 hours her project was fully funded, and a couple of days later the art supplies arrived at her door!
As Jones explains “access to these supplies will allow all students to engage in a broad spectrum of art activities during our online learning and will support their health and safety when we transition back to in-person learning.”
