English Language Acquisition

The goal of the English Language Acquisition (ELA) program is to help students access the English language skills they need to meaningfully and equally participate in the district’s mainstream instructional program.

DPS believes every student’s home language and culture are assets that enrich our classrooms and, combined with English language skills, leads to success in school and life.

Students enrolled in English Language Development (ELD) courses are more likely to be on track to English proficiency, according to the ACCESS Trajectory. Extensive research both within DPS and nationwide has shown that a separate, daily block dedicated to ELD is essential in providing quality language instruction that allows both beginning and intermediate English Learners (ELs) to succeed in both content and language throughout the course of their educational careers.

Hamilton invites the families of our ELA scholars to join our English Language Acquisition Parent Advisory Council (ELA PAC). Learn more HERE. Please see our calendar for meeting times.
