Welcome Letter From Our Principal

Letter to 6th-Grade Families

Greetings Hamilton Families!

We are thrilled to welcome you and your family to Hamilton Middle School and be part of the 2023-2024 6th Grade Class! We can’t wait for you to become part of our Husky Community!

Hamilton Middle School fosters lifelong global learners, through the nurturing of a compassionate and intercultural community that leads change toward a more peaceful world. We are proud to be an International Baccalaureate World School and we promote balanced academic, physical, artistic, and emotional development for all students. Our school identity is grounded in serving the whole child, every child! And now, that means you!

We know the transition from elementary to middle school may be exciting and scary, so we want to prepare you as best we can. Make sure to read our Heads Up Hamilton Newsletter located on the “News” tab of our website, hamilton.dpsk12.org/news/,  to stay up to date with our upcoming events, including registration. Get ready for the start of the year by practicing our learner profile attributes of being balanced, caring, principled, reflective, a thinker, inquirer, knowledgeable, a risk taker, open-minded, and a communicator, and getting into the routine of reading every day. Our first day of school is August 21st, and we’ll go over “All Things Hamilton” at our 6th Grade Orientation during the first 2 days of school.

If you haven’t already, please take a moment to review the following by scanning the QR codes below:

August 2023

Dear Hamilton Families,

I am so excited to welcome you to the 2023-2024 school year! I hope your time away from school was relaxing, fun, peaceful, enjoyable, and all the things you wanted your summer to be. My name is Fernanda Dillon, and I am honored to serve as the School Principal at Hamilton.

The purpose of this communication is to share important information about the beginning of the school year. Please read through the entire document carefully. If you have questions about the information, do not hesitate to reach out to me or Hamilton’s Assistant Principals:

Required Registration

Every family is required to either complete registration virtually or come to Hamilton to complete registration in person. If you update your student’s registration/information online, you don’t need to come to Hamilton.

During in-building registration, you will also have the opportunity to meet our support staff and pick up a free backpack if needed.

1st Week of School Phase In

A gradual entry will give students and teachers opportunities to engage in relationship building, learn school routines and get their new lockers. Students pick up their schedules on the first day of school.

Transportation

If your student is eligible for transportation, make sure you know the route assigned to your family.

Breakfast/Lunch

Beginning August 2023, breakfast and lunch is provided at no cost to all students. It is important for all families to complete a free and reduced meal application each school year to support our school receiving funds from the State of Colorado. The application is available now on www.MySchoolApps.com

Supplies

Your student’s teachers may have additional recommendations for supplies specific to their content.

Below you will find the school supply list for 6th-8th grade Hamilton students. Some teachers may have additional supplies for their classes.

You may deliver your school supplies to the main office beginning the week of August 14-18 from 9am-3pm or on the first day of school.

Items students should bring to school each day:

School-to-Home Communication via Digital Deets

Hamilton will be using Digital Deets to streamline our communication this year. The system helps to disseminate school-to-home information smoothly and effectively. Their “one app for all” solution enables all members of a school community to easily receive information. Here’s how you can sign up:

  1. Head to www.digitaldeets.com or download their mobile app available for iOS and Android.
  2. Sign up and connect to your child. (No Digital Deets Code for your child? No problem! Use the Look it UpLink.)
  3. You will begin to receive targeted, relevant information related to your children.

Back to School Night

Family and School partnership is essential for student success.

Our school is honored to partner with you in order to foster a caring, productive, predictable, and safe learning environment where every student thrives and practices IB Learner Profile Attributes: Caring, Balanced, Reflective, Principled, Thinker, Inquirer, Knowledgeable, Risk Taker, Open Minded and Communicator.

Sincerely,

Fernanda Dillon
