The Aspiring Teacher Leader of Color Cohort is a teacher leadership fellowship program ran by DPS to help develop transformative knowledge, skills, and mindsets to be a leader for equity in the Senior/ Team Lead role. Keel is excited to have been selected for this opportunity.

Keel has worked in education for 20 years, for 10 of those years as a Special Education Teacher. She has worked at Hamilton for 7 years, but she has been a husky since she was in middle school when she was a Hamilton student! Keel has been in her current role as Dean of the Students and Whole Child for two years.

Originally Keel wanted to pursue a career as a Social Worker but becoming a mother pushed her into education. While education may not be where she saw herself, she has always wanted to work in her community and be a role model for students who don’t have that person to look to.

The fellowship started in September and will continue through February. Keel is excited to continue her work has part of the fellowship, and become a more well rounded leader.

“Sometimes the universe has a way of placing us right where we need to be.”

“I want to learn more about instructional leadership, and by expanding my knowledge in that area I believe I can have a significant impact on curriculum implementation and instruction for underserved student groups. “
