TikTok Challenges and Destruction of Property
As many of you know, earlier in the year, schools across the country had to deal with some vandalism due to a TikTok challenge. Hamilton was not immune and we were forced to close most of our restrooms at times due to the damage of vandalism. We appreciate all of our students and families who were able to provide information, including passing along information about upcoming challenges that are again spreading on social media.
The newest concern is students using the string and/or wire from masks to saw through hard and soft plastic furniture. As a point of reference and discussion for families, we are including some of the damage that we’ve already seen and the consequences that will be enforced if any of our students choose to participate. This notification will be considered a clarification of expectations. If a student participates in any of the irresponsible or illegal activities being shared via social media, they will be subject to school and legal consequences.
Destruction of school property (up to $500)…Up to 3 days of in-school suspension, and repayment to cover the cost of damage ($50 per chair)
Student Perception Surveys have been sent out to students today to complete. They have until next Friday, Nov. 12th to complete the surveys. Students should check their DPS emails for instructions.
Additional Learning Time
Room 124 is now available for Additional Learning Time during lunches. Only 24 seats are available each day. In keeping with the restorative practice’s values of holding students accountable, and providing high support, students should be assigned an ALT Lunch if they are in need of time to make up work, practice a skill, and/or engage in silent lunch.
Asynchronous Day for Students
Hamilton Middle School will have a Teacher Workday with an asynchronous day for students, where they can work at their own pace, on Nov 29, 2021. All staff will be in the building for a partial-day staff meeting, work time, and student work time as well.

If your child is under the weather please keep them home. When a child is sick their immune system is low which makes them more susceptible to catching another illness. It also makes the spreading of germs to healthy kids greater. COVID-19 has changed the guidelines and extra care is required to keep your child as well as Hamilton healthy. Please see the attached flyer “How Sick is too Sick” for guidance on when to keep your child home.

Dear Families, your scholars should already have received a school-issued Chromebook and charger last year. If they are new to the district or need a new Chromebook due to damage, they will receive one on the first or second day of school.
