PLEASE JOIN US FOR A VIDEO PRESENTATION ON RISK PREVENTION w/ Audrey Torrez-Fluent, Social Worker

The goal of this presentation is to discuss teen violence, self-destructive behaviors, and risk factors with a focus on how adults can provide guidance and gain teen trust. So far, the focus of intervention with students has been on only half of the vital problems of raising adolescents. However, this approach is limited and does not address the important role that adults play in the growth and development of young people. It is easy to understand why this happens. Most activities and clubs offered by schools are open to and appealing to teens. While adults (parents) in some cases are seen as too busy, they avoid topics important to young people or their availability is very limited. Even so, their role in the development of young people, within families, at school, and in the community is very important. Adults are the building block to prevent adolescents from being permanently at risk and develop tools to defend themselves and develop successfully.

Those attending will be able to:

  • Identify neurological and psychological aspects of adolescent development to prevent risk.
  • Learn an effective methodology to know how to educate and effectively manage their adolescent
  • Identify some erroneous beliefs about how to correct an adolescent.
  • Provide support, guide, and help adolescents at risk.

The workshop materials are based on the developer of the Risky Business Program by Dr. Steve Dranoff a psychologist, educator, researcher, and author. He is the creator of five emotional work programs with adolescents. Dr. Dranoff programs have been used in most Denver schools, both public and private.

There will be 3 in-person presentations on March 16th and 21st:5:00pm, 6:00 pm, and 7:00 pm

If you plan to attend, please email atorre1@dpsk12.net
